The SIAI-Marchetti SF.260 is a two seat primary trainer and light counter insurgency aircraft. Designed by Stelio Fratti (1919~2010) and built by SIA-Marchetti. The type first flew in 1964 and has undergone constant improvement and upgrades over the years. SF denoted the designer Stelio Frati and 260 denoted the HP (Horsepower) of the engine. In 1997, Alenia Aermacchi (A Finmeccanica Company of Italy) took over SIAI-Marchetti and continues to market the aircraft as the Alenia Aermacchi F-260, but in low rate production only to support military orders.
