New GST refund system for tourists

Singapore has just introduce a new GST refund system. Tax-free shopping will soon be a breeze for tourists as 60 retailers, including jewellers and luxury brands, have started using Premier Tax Free’s electronic GST refund system - Singapore is the first country in Asia to implement this system.  Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Portugal, Spain, and United Kingdom are currently using this tax refund system. Previously tourists have to accumulate S$300 in receipts to qualify for a refund and retailers had to take more than five minutes to fill GST refund vouchers.  With the system, it takes only half a minute and one needs to spend S$100 to qualify for the refund.  So look out for retailers with the signboards showing Premier Tax Free are prominently displayed.  Oct 2004 PT.
