PrimaDeli outlets to open on 1-1-2008

PrimaDeli and its franchised outlets can start selling on the first day of 2008. Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) was satisfied with the steps taken to resume operations. These include passing the AVA's screening of the cleaning and disinfection of its factory. Prima food handlers have also been re-trained on food and personal hygiene and in addition, PrimaDeli has strengthened its food safety system with an improved quality control programme, more health checks for staff and a deployment of independent food safety officers.

Background Story: The Prima Food factory was ordered to shut down on 5 December 2007 after cases of food poisoning, involving more than 200 people who had eaten chocolate cakes from PrimaDeli. Some food factory workers were tested positive for Salmonella, a bacteria that causes food poisoning.   According to Wikipedia, Salmonella is a genus of rod-shaped gram-negative enterobacteria that can cause foodborne illness.  It is primarily from poultry / raw eggs and more generally from food that has been cooked or frozen and not eaten straight away.
