Parliament House

The new Parliament House, completed in 1999, is fronted by a lush green lawn, just beside the Singapore River. Its colonnade facade hides the gamut of modern technology, thus blending her architecturally into the surrounding buildings of the Civic District. You can pay a visit to the Parliament House on a non-sitting day, and join guided tours operated twice daily, from 2.30pm-4.00pm or 3.30pm to 5.00pm. But Singapore’s oldest government building is the former Parliament House, designed and built by George Coleman 1827. The building, originally meant to be a colonial mansion, is now home to "The Arts House at the Old Parliament".

siam elephant

This bronze elephant statue, a gift from King Chulalongkorn of Siam in 1871.  Originally stood in front of the Town Hall, later Victoria Memorial Hall. Singapore was the first foreign country visited by a Siamese King. Was it moved in 1919 when Raffles was put in place? or earlier? Similar one sits in front of the National Museum, Jakarta, which is called 'museum gajah'.
