Ranau
Ranau, Kinabalu National Park is built to facilitate visitors to Mt. Kinabalu (4,101 m), South-East Asia’s highest peak. The Park Headquarters is about 20km away from Ranau. The area’s bio-diversity due to the high elevation, as well as the cooler climate, are attractions for tourists. Ranau is situated between the West Coast Division and the Ranau District of Sabah. It also serves as the administrative centre for the Ranau District.
At a ’tamu,’ locally meaning ’meet,’ is where the local farmers sell their produce. Kundasan and Ranau tamus are being held daily along the road sides. Kundasan War Memorial Display Garden near the Park Headquaters nurtures plants and flowers from Borneo, Australia and Britain. The Memorial Garden is set up to commemorate soldiers and fighters sacrificed during World War II.
