The Serian District Council performs its duties to govern the areas under its care based on the laws stated in the Local Authority Ordinance, other associated laws and the Council By-Laws, which is also included in the Ordinance.The Serian District, located around 60 kilometres from the Kuching city, covers an area of 2,106 square kilometres.
The district has 203 villages with a total population of 80,200 consisting of different races.The Bidayuh is the largest race, contributing to 59% of the total population in Serian followed by the Iban with 17%, the Chinese with 14%, the Malays with 8% and the other races with 2%.Apart from the modern buildings, the buildings in Serian are made of wood and semi concrete structures
