Since the early 19th century, Bau has produced mercury, antimony and gold. Nicknamed Gold Town, Bau's most recognizable landmark is Tasik Biru, the famous blue lake that was formerly the gold mine centre of the town. It is now a tourist attraction. The Fairy Cave, Wind Cave and Ghost Cave is also located here. Bau is a producer of palm oil, bird's nest, pepper, rubber and other agricultural products.
