Among the most popular shopping malls in Singapore which houses Robinsons & Co. and other specialty shops.  I M Pei, the world renowned architect commissioned to design Raffles City, described it as a catalyst in enriching the quality of life in Singapore.  Raffles City was build in 1980 and would leave an indelible impression on the city landscape.  Raffles City is built where the historic Raffles Institution stood for more than a century. It stands on 30,630 square metres of prime land in the heart of the Central Business District. It is accessible from four main city streets, namely Bras Basah Road, Beach Road, Stamford Road and North Bridge Road.  The City Hall MRT Station which is at the foot of Raffles City links the financial and commercial centres of Shenton Way and Raffles Place, the shopping centres and the tourist belt at Orchard Road with the residential estates to the north, east and west of Singapore. The salient features of Raffles City, designed to be "the city within a city" are:  The 73-storey Swissotel The Stamford, which is Southeast Asia's tallest hotel; The 28-storey twin-tower Raffles The Plaza; The 42-storey Raffles City Tower; A 7-storey podium which houses the Raffles City Convention Centre, Raffles City Shopping Centre.
