Kelantan Songket Bazaar

If you like, you can pay the songket bazaar a visit. It is located at Kampung Penambang. You will find it on your way to Pantai Cahaya Bulan, approximately 4km north of Kota Baru. Kelantanese are very proud of their songket. In the olden days, this beautiful “cloth of gold” was strictly for royalty although the fabric is now used during weddings and other ceremonial occasions. A uniquely designed silk cloth, songket is richly woven with gold or silver threads. It came about during the earlier trading years between China and India. The Chinese provided the silk while the Indians contributed the gold and silver threads. As a result, the songket was born.
