Bukit Mertajam

Bukit Batu Maung - the site of a 1930s British military fortress established to protect the island from the enemy - has been developed into the War Museum, the first of its kind in Penang and the country, thanks to museum operations manager Johari.

Penang Bird Park - Spans 5 acres and houses a fine collection of some 800 birds from all over the world. Beautifully landscaped and features a walk-in aviary, pond with ducks and swans abound with water lillies, Japanese carps and ornamental plants. Oficially opened by the Prime Minister on Nov 26 1988. Also has a vast collection of orchids, hibiscus, and palm trees. The park includes a children playground and little 'pondok' shelters.
