SingTel start 3G trials
SingTel has started trials of third generation (3G) video calls between mobile and fixed-line phones. During the month-long trial, participants are given a fixed-line video phone to make voice and video calls to 3G phones, SingTel said in a statement. The trial will involve only 150 customers. According to Singtel, the objective of this trial is to make video communications accessible across the masses. Singtel will be among the first operators to offer 3G video calls via fixed lines. The commercial launch expected at the end of 2004 or early 2005. M1 (Singtel competitor) and Nokia reported that they have successfully completed field trials of 3rd Generation WCDMA technology.
