The Club was established in 1883 by the Eurasian community as a club for non-whites in Singapore, after the Singapore Cricket Club was opened for the whites. Since then SRC has become one of the most cosmopolitan social clubs with a membership roll now made up of mostly Chinese, followed by Indians and Eurasians. During is long existence the club has nurtured many national players in sports, including Olympians Lloyd Valberg in athletics, Douglas Nonis in hockey and Natahar Bava in athletics and rugby.
