Singapore 09 - Harbourfront, Telok Blangah

Keppel Harbour has a rich history, dating back to the 14th century when ancient Chinese sailors knew the harbour as Lung-Ya-Men, meaning Dragon Teeth Gate.  Ships that visited the port included Chinses junks, Bugis and Thai boats which brought good such as earthenware, paper, flour, Chinese medicines, cloth, rice and spices. Most of these commodities were then exported in different directions and so began the island's entrepot trade - much as it is today.  Today, Keppel Harbour (Habourfront)  is a far cry from what was in the past. It now houses the Tanjong Pagar Port, the world's busiest port and an important revenue earner for Singapore. It has put Singapore in the forefront of international ports and shipping.

Mount Faber was formerly called Telok Blangah Hill. This name was changed to Mount Faber after Captain Edward Faber cut the road up to the top in 1845 to establish a signal station.  Today, the road winds its way as a one-way route from Kampong Bahru Road, past several colonial houses before reaching the peak. Mount Faber is the second highest point after Bukit Timah Hill in Singapore at 110 metres.  At the peak, Mount Faber Scenic Park faces southwest over Keppel Shipyard and Keppel Harbour and offers panoramic views of the coast, city, the surrounding islands and the nearby Indonesian Archipelago.
