Flight Sim Notes

The key for spoiler (speed brakes)  is next to right shift and has a '?' with the '/' under that. The '/' press is SPOILER toggle. The time for it to 'take' is set in cfg's (Geometry) section and line is: 'spoiler_extension_time=x'. The x can be 2.000 (seconds) or 5.000 (seconds). Best to use 2.000. If line is not there-add it. In air file there is an entry (sometimes not included if you have tail hook) in line 327 that will 'activate' spoiler and reads 'Spoiler Available=x' (x is '0' for 'NO' and '1' for 'YES'). Spoiler CAN act like a 'tailhook', but don't activate it until JUST before (1 second before?) you land!!! This a 'stern' warning (a little humor?). THIS is why tailhook is 'safer'. But it depends on you pilot skills.

If you are thinking of increasing the 'drag' for the spoiler, you go into air file, to Section 1101 'Flight Dynamics' and look where the other 'drags' are (fuselage, gear, flap and spoiler). The value works ALONG with the 'spoiler_limit' in cfg's 'Geometry' section. The cfg value ('default') is '59.989' and the air value for the F/A-18 is '=98'. So adjust to your 'taste'. The value will depend on how much drag you need. For use with flaps the value is usually 600. To stop it dead in it's tracks, use 5000 (if you hit deck at 130 kts) or 8000 (if you hit deck at 190 kts-hehe). Trial and error in air file value is recommended. Leave the cfg value (at '59.989'. Don't forget to so a 'SAVE' (not a 'SAVE AS') when you're done with cfg (and air too).

Hope this helps.
