"Can get fine" for smoking at bus stops
Singapore will be extending the ban to bus shelters, bus interchanges and public toilets by 1 Oct 2005. Currently, smoking is also banned in queues as it is difficult for non-smokers in queues to avoid second-hand smoke. This is the reason to ban smoking at bus stops. Despite the ban on smoking at bus stops, some smokers are still seen puffing away at these places. Interestingly, rubbish bins with built-in ashtrays are still being provided at bus stops. These bins may have send a wrong message to smokers that smoking at bus stops is permissible.
