Thai Buddhist Temple

This is a traditional Thai Buddhist Temple. Wat Ananda Metyarama was formerly located at 83 Silat Road with a land area of 18,317 sq. feet was completed in 1925.  Like most Buddhist Temple, it has a huge Bodhi Tree and true to Thai Tradition, the Boddhi Tree had a huge yellow ribbon wrapped around it most of the time.

The term "Bodhi tree" is also widely applied to currently existing trees, particularly the Sacred Fig growing at Wat Ananda Metyarama was probably a direct descendant of the original Bodhi Tree.  According to Buddhism, after Buddha Enlightenment, he spent a whole week in front of the tree, standing with unblinking eyes, gazing at it with gratitude. A shrine was later erected on the spot where he so stood.  The spot was used as a shrine even in the lifetime of the Buddha.

In 1975, he renovated the temple and in 1979 he constructed the pagoda and a 3-storey residential block for the monks.

In 1995, work on a new 3-storey extension that house the library, Dhamma classrooms and Mediation Hall was underway. The roof layout has a unique feature. It was completed in 1996 / 1977. With the latest addition, the Wat is better poised to spread the Budda's Teaching to the Seekers of Truth.

In 1995 it also constructed a Kwan Yin Shrine and a new porch included in the front of the main shrine.
