Segway only allowed in One North

One North is Singapore's new integrated science park at Buona Vista. Singapore Government has allowed to introduce personal transporters like the Segway at One North Park. Under existing regulations, the Segway will have no market in Singapore. If it uses the roads, it needs a COE. So, it is a non-starter. And because it is motorised, it is not allowed for use on our jogging and cycling tracks. So, the only place you can use it in Singapore is in your own private compound. And it costs too much for you to keep it as a toy back home. The Singapore Government finally is allowed only in One North. The personal transporters can run on pedestrian walkways and certain designated roads, and then let us watch what happens. If there are problems, then the Singapore Government may tighten their rules on its usage. If there are no problems, then maybe we can relax the rules for other parts of Singapore. And there will be other experiments that we will conduct at One North.

More about Segway Human Transporter:

Segway was formerly known as Ginger lives up toits price and the tidal wave of hype, and about what its inventor, Dean Kamen. Segway has built a machine that's both fun andnearly effortless to ride. A commuter should be able to scoot to work on a hot summer day and never break a sweat. The learning curve isminimal, and taking curves is as simple as a flick of the wrist. But riders will have to bundle up to run errands in the rain - the machine offers no shelter from the elements. And forget about bringing home groceries, since the two-wheeler provides little more in the way of built-in storage than its owner's pockets. And given the machine's estimated price tag of S$8,000.
