Singapore lion roars to life

The Singapore Lion in red and white - the national colours - and they walk on all fours. With a face reminiscent of the Merlion, the Singapore Lion, a distant cousin of the northern and southern lions of lion dance performances, made its debut in Jurong East Stadium on 23 Jan 2005 and was unveil by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong after two years of hard work.  The concept of the Singapore Lion was mooted in 2002 by then-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.  But will the Singapore Lion strengthen Singapore's national identity?
