Singapore Airlines (SIA) roared into Asia’s budget aviation market, announcing it will begin operating a no-frills carrier called Tiger Airlines.  Tiger, a venture between Singapore Air and the founder of Irish discount airline Ryanair, will be the second budget carrier to fly from Singapore's Changi Airport after Singapore's ValuAir.  Tiger Airlines will start with three flights a day to Thailand.

Tiger Airways has appointed William Franke as Chairman, and Patrick Gan as Chief Executive.   Franke, the former Chairman of America West Airlines is Managing Director of Indigo Partners, one of Singapore Airlines partners in the new low-cost airline.  Gan joins the airline from the pharmaceutical industry.
