Hobart

Australia's smallest state is a rugged and beautiful island located off the southeast coast of the mainland. It's also home to Tasmanian Devils, incredibly ornery marsupials that really do exist.   At Trowunna Wildlife Park in the north part of the island, visitors can watch these fearsome critters "in action" at feeding time.  This apparently involves road kill and is not for the faint of heart.  Tasmania has plenty more to offer - great beaches, beautiful mountains and the quirky, atmospheric riverside city of Hobart.

THE Hobart Summer Festival is rolling out the free fun for the kids this weekend with The Mercury Kidz in the Park fun day at St David's Park.  The highlight this year will be the return of Play School's George Spartels, whose energetic performances are renowned for entertaining adults as much as children.  As well as George's all-new show, there will be a variety of entertainment for the kids starting from 11am.  Children can meet the animals at the petting zoo, shake hands with Shrek and high-five Tully the Tasmanian Tiger.  Life. Be In It will have a range of activities including the earthball and parachute, and craft activities also will be run. Kids can play croquet, bocce, box hockey and even try their hand at pumpkin-rolling.
