  • H for Search and Rescue.
  • K for Tanker.
  • M for Multi-Mission Aircraft.
  • Q for Multi-Mission UAVs (Remote Piloted Aircraft).
  • O for Observation.
  • T for Trainer.
  • U for Utility Aircraft.
  • V for VIP Staff Transport.
  • W for Weather Reconnaissance.

Because of budget constraints, the USAF planned to reduce its strenght from 360,000 active duty personnel to 316,000.
